about

Musica vesperam, musica mane. Two eremitic compositions for strings and distant voices.

‘Lament’ was written for the day after the the sun’s culmination on the estival solstice, when it begins its downward trajectory, reaching its nadir in the winter months. Likewise, ‘Obsequy’ was written for the day after the hiemal solstice, when the sun, reborn after its long, slow death, begins to rise again in the sky.

As well as reflecting this annual cycle of birth and death, both compositions also address the intimate, daily absence and return of the sun, and, as recommended by the artist, ‘can be played to mark each transit; one hour before dusk, and one hour before dawn’.
